Kate melahirkan putra ketiganya di St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington.Sang putra akan berada di urutan kelima tahta Kerajaan Inggris.
Meskipun sekilas tak ada yang berbeda dari orang biasa, namun ternyata ada peraturan khusus untuk kelahiran anggota keluarga kerajaan baru.
Apa saja peraturannya?
1. Sang Ratu harus menjadi orang pertama yang tahu
Sebelum diumumkan ke publik, sang ratu harus jadi orang pertama yang tahu soal kelahiran itu. Misalnya saja saat kelahiran Pangeran George pada tahun 2013 silam.
Saat itu, Pangeran William menelepon neneknya, Ratu Elizabeth II dengan telepon yang telah dienkripsi.
2. Pengumuman kelahiran
Jika ada anggota kerajaan yang baru lahir, maka ada petugas khusus yang disebut crier yang akan mengumumkan kelahiran tersebut. Sebelum mengumumkannya di media manapun, crier biasanya akan mengumumkannya di depan Istana Buckingham, Inggris.
Tradisi ini dilakukan untuk rakyat yang di masa lampau belum bisa membaca atau menulis.
Nah, kerajaan Inggris masih menerapkan tradisi ini sampai sekarang. Kelahiran Pangeran George dan Putri Charlotte adalah salah satunya. Kelahiran mereka diumumkan oleh crier Tony Appleton.
Namun ada satu hal yang berbeda di era ini. Kate dan William 'melanggar' protokol kerajaan ini dengan mengumumkannya pertama kali bukan lewat crier, namun melalui Twitter.
3. Melahirkan di Istana Buckingham
Para ratu dan keluarga kerajaan Inggris dulunya melahirkan di Istana Buckingham. Namun tradisi ini ditentang oleh Putri Diana. Ia memilih untuk melahirkan kedua putranya di rumah sakit St. Mary's Hospital, London. Tradisi baru ini kemudian diikuti oleh sang menantu, Kate Middleton.
4. Sang ayah tak boleh masuk ke ruang persalinan
Tak seperti rakyat biasa, calon ayah ternyata tak boleh masuk ke ruang persalinan. Prosesi melahirkan diyakini sebagai prosesi sakral yang hanya boleh dihadiri oleh perempuan.
Namun peraturan ini disebut-sebut sudah lebih longgar sejak kelahiran Pangeran Charles.
5. Para bidan kerajaan telah disumpah untuk menjaga rahasia
